Character design blobs

In order to start my character design brief, i undertook the task of developing characters based off of ink blobs. This was such a beneficial task to me as it really allowed me to loosen up and look at these images in an abstract way in order to pull creative designs out of them.  Using the negative space on this blob, i created this puffer fish/coral design. Using the negative space really trained my eyes to look for something a little less obvious like i normally would and to dig a little deeper into my imagination in order to construct an image.  Using the interior of the blob this time, i created this running dog. This is my favourite design as it was so much fun to depict the movement as it felt really fluid and natural once i saw the design and ran with it. Final folded format

  Above, are some videos showing my final folded format, and its front cover.  To begin the construction of my book, i marked up every image against the guidelines that i created on my digital copies (refer to folded formats development blog) in order to make sure that every section was equal. I used a craft knife for this to ensure a close cut.  After i had all of my pieces cut, i arranged them into their corresponding pages and stacked them up in my desired order. I chose not to order them in any specific way as the whole idea of the book is that it is a mix and match, so i alternated the pages between Florence's different ages. After this, i punched holes through each of the panels and attached little metal rings to bind each section together.
